In 1982 God showed Gustav Scheller (a Swiss businessman living with his wife, Elsa, in Bournemouth, UK) that it was His plan and purpose to bring the Jewish people back to Israel, and that He would use Gustav to help Him do so. In 1991 the Lord spoke to Gustav in Jerusalem, " Now is the time to start helping my people to return from the land of the north." Gustav understood that the biblical " Land of the North" not only referred mainly to Russia, but included all the countries of the former Soviet Union (fSU).† Responding to this word from the Lord, Scheller founded Ebenezer Operation Exodus, an international, interdenominational Christian organization, with the purpose of helping Jewish people return to Israel.
Since its inception, God has enabled Ebenezer to help more than 140,000 Jewish people make aliyah by sea and on flights sponsored by the Jewish Agency for Israel. (aliyah is the Hebrew word for “going up,” as in ascending to Jerusalem.)
Why Help the Jewish People Return to the land of Israel?
Many Scriptures express God' s promise that one day He will bring His people back to the land He gave them. For example:
" I will bring your descendants from the east and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, ' Give them up!' And to the south, ' Do not keep them back!' Bring My sons from afar and My daughters from the ends of the earth." (Isaiah 43:5-6)
" I will gather you from the nations and bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you back the land of Israel again." (Ezekiel 11:17)
" This is what the Sovereign LORD says: ' See, I will beckon to the Gentiles, I will lift up my banner to thepeoples; they will bring your sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their shoulders.' " (Isaiah 49:22).

The fact that Jewish people are again living as a nation in the land of Israel is evidence of God' s faithfulness to His Word. The restoration of Israel is profoundly significant for the Church and is evidence that we live in " prophetic" times.
Ebenezer started with just three people in 1991, but now has an International Board, 13 bases in the former Soviet Union and 40 offices operating worldwide with a team of over 150 volunteers and staff.
National and regional offices are spread throughout the fSU. The bases coordinate field working teams and volunteers, organize transport requirements, and are the hubs of Operation Exodus in their regions. The offices are vital places of contact for Jewish communities and families, as well as for churches supporting the work of Ebenezer.
In recent years, Ebenezer Operation Exodus has begun to assist Jewish people more actively from the West. In Ethiopia, South Africa, the UK, and now with hub centers in the USA, Ebenezer is supporting aliyah and preparing to help with large numbers of people.
The purpose of Ebenezer Operation Exodus is to encourage and help the Jewish people return to the Land of Israel from the land of the north and all† other nations, and to proclaim God' s Kingdom purposes for their return.
