Organised by the Jewish Agency, in London this was a well attended event; approximately 2000 people visited more
than 50 exhibitors from various organisations and companies who came to market their Israeli services to new immigrants. As in previous years,
Ebenezer also had a stand at the Expo, manned by our South East Regional Team led by Rod and Penny Langston, John and Daphne Fleetcroft,
David and Margaret Webster and Phil Lumley.
All from EOE were unanimous in agreeing that this was the Best Expo yet. We had many notable visitors including the Minister for Absorption,
as well as the Israeli Ambassador to the UK, Daniel Taub. It was good to renew the acquaintance with the Ambassador, who was quick to tell
me how much Ebenezer Operation Exodus was appreciated by him and how greatly our work is valued. Baruch HaShem!
Early in the day the stand was visited by the Chairman of the synagogue, who congratulated Ebenezer on “their very fine work”. He insisted on locating the Rabbi and introducing him to us. He was effusive in his praise and thanks for what we do. This was a “first” and marks a real warming in relations with the Jewish Community.
The Ebenezer Operation Exodus stand was kept busy talking to enquirers and distributing many resource items, including the UK Aliyah DVD, the Biblical Prophecy scripture booklet, bulletins and Gustav’s book ‘Operation Exodus’.
The Expo was blessed with many visitors, who were not only able to receive first-hand advice and guidance at the many other stands, but also treated to a wide range of topical seminars.
Both the JA and UJIA commented on a very busy day with increased enquiries by those wanting to make aliyah. It also came to light during the day that the number of places on the December flight was fully booked, and a lady from our local Kent synagogue, who we had met at Ulpan, had to have separate provision made for her on another aircraft.
In all, a very worthwhile occasion, rounded off with us joining the JA Team for falafels, accompanied by copious amounts of chips, salad and humus.
