     The Bnei Menashe of India
The descendants of the Biblical tribe of Manasseh—Bnei Menashe—are returning to Israel after 2,700 years!
In northeastern India, in the land mass that lies between Myanmar (formerly Burma) and Bangladesh, there lives a group of people. They call themselves Bnei Menashe, descendants of the tribe of Manasseh, one of the 10 lost tribes. Also known as the Shinlung, the Bnei Menashe date their history back to the exile from the Northern Kingdom of Israel in 721 B.C. From there, their ancestors sojourned across the silk route and finally ended up in India and Myanmar. After thousands of years of exile, they have rediscovered their roots and are now coming home to Israel.
The story of these people is an amazing one. In the early 1950s, a tribal leader named Chalianthanga had a dream in which his people returned to Zion. The Bnei Menashe have ancient traditions, handed down from generation to generation, which refer to the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. They adhere to Jewish customs, including observing dietary laws, keeping the Sabbath, and circumcising baby boys on the eighth day after birth.
The Israeli organization «Shavei Israel»(which literally means the "returned" of Israel) helps such lost tribes. Click above for further information.
